Castro Valley Christmas Tree Farm

Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Castro Valley, California · Alameda County

A long-running choose-and-cut farm in the East Bay hills just north of Castro Valley, on utility-district land, where pesticide-free pines, firs, cypresses, cedars and redwoods are all sold at a flat price for any size.

Saws, twine and a site map are handed out when you arrive, and you hike the hillside rows to find your tree. Every tree in a species group costs the same no matter its height, so a small tree costs as much as a tall one; the farm asks visitors to choose carefully and leave the young seedlings alone.

The farm grows Monterey pine, Douglas fir, grand and white fir, several cypresses, incense cedar and both coast and Sierra redwoods without pesticides or herbicides. Wreaths, mistletoe, netting and water stands are sold on site. Cash is preferred, though cards and checks are taken. It is open Thursday through Sunday only, so plan around the midweek closure.
