Schilter Family Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Olympia, Washington · Thurston County
A family farm by the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge just off I-5 where you choose and cut your own fir in the farm's forest, then warm up with cider doughnuts and cocoa by the old barn.
The tree farm sits about three-quarters of a mile down Nisqually Cutoff Road from the farm's produce stand. You can cut a noble, Fraser, Nordmann, grand or Douglas fir yourself or pick a fresh-cut tree, and the crew handles shaking and netting; flocking is available too.
Weekends bring wagon rides and Santa visits, and there is a small Christmas train for a few dollars. The country gift shop sells cider doughnuts, fudge and gifts, and a lighted nativity fills a barn that is well over a century old. In October the same fields host a u-pick pumpkin patch and corn maze.
