A Dutchess County choose-and-cut farm in Verbank open on Black Friday and a few December weekends, with one flat price for any tree in the fields, kettle corn and free hot chocolate.
Walk the open fields, pick a tree and cut it, and the crew will bale it for free and help tie it to your car. Trees top out around 8 to 9 feet. The farm also sells wreaths, stands, preservative and disposal bags.
Payment is cash or personal check only. Leashed dogs are welcome. Fresh kettle corn and free hot chocolate are served, and a local baker brings sweets and snacks. Weekday visits can be arranged by appointment, and tailgating needs a call ahead.
