Vandervalk Farm & Winery

Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Mendon, Massachusetts · Worcester County

A Mendon farm and winery with fields of balsam and Fraser fir, most of them seven to nine feet tall, sold first come, first served on a handful of weekends after Thanksgiving.

There is no tagging or reserving, so the earliest visitors get the pick of the tallest trees, and the farm warns it can sell out by the end of opening weekend. Saws and a cart for hauling are provided, along with twine for tying the tree to your roof.

The fields have no lights, so finish cutting before 4 p.m. Leashed dogs are welcome if you clean up after them. Check the farm's website or Facebook page before driving out to make sure trees are still available. The winery is just across the street on Lovell Street.
