Little Bear Tree Farm
Cut-your-own Christmas trees · Alta, California · Placer County
A 60-acre family tree farm in the Sierra foothills at Alta, established in 1958, where vintage Willys Jeeps carry visitors up the hill to cut silvertip, white fir, Douglas fir, pine and cedar.
Ride one of the farm's old Willys Jeeps up into the rows, pick a tree at least five feet tall and cut it with the hand saw the farm provides; power saws are not allowed. Cut-your-own trees are priced by the foot, and pre-cut noble and Nordmann fir are sold as marked.
The gift shop sells ornaments, lights, hot cocoa, cider and baked goods. Kids can feed trout in the creek and visit the farm animals, and there is a bonfire. The farm sits above the snowline, so four-wheel drive helps on snowy days. Leashed dogs are welcome. Cards, Apple Pay and cash are accepted.
